Lady Huskies fall to Palmyra in Mid-Penn showdown

LEWISTOWN – The Huskies struggled to slow down the Palmyra offensive attack as they fell by the final score of 5-1 in a Mid-Penn Conference girls soccer game Thursday afternoon.
It was a special night though for the Huskies as they were honoring their seniors for all that they have contributed to the girls soccer program. Those seniors were Morgan Breon, Maddie Finkenbinder, Leah Bickert, Kate Knable, Lily Yoder and Shae Bagrosky.
Mifflin County had their chances to score early on in the first half as senior Finkenbinder made a run on the outside and launched a cross pass over to Breon but the ball was taken away by Palmyra’s goalkeeper Maddie Webb.
Aubrey Strohecker then took her chance to score for Mifflin County but her shot was stopped by Webb. Not long after that, Strohecker again had an opportunity to score but the shot was wide right of the net.
With ten minutes of scoreless play, the Cougars struck first, as Zoe Smith muscled through the Husky defense and blasted the ball to the back of the net giving them a 1-0 lead.
However, Mifflin County would respond as Aubrey Strohecker sneaked her way past the Palmyra defensive line and took possession of the ball away from them creating a one on one opportunity against Cougar keeper Webb. And Strohecker would win that battle and even the game at one apiece.
But from there onward, Palmyra went off and dropped two more goals in the half. Katelyn Monette gave the Cougs back the lead with a shot to the top left corner of the net making it 2-1.
Not much longer after that, Maddie Grinstead snuck inside the Mifflin County net and hammered one in to give Palmyra a 3-1 at the break.
The Cougars would add on two more goals in the second half as Monette would take advantage of a miscue by Mifflin County and drove in a goal to make it 4-1.
The final goal of the game came from Bridget Krikorian who scored off a rebound when the ball bounced off of Mifflin County keeper Bailey McNitt and landed right back at the feet of Krikorian to make it 5-1.
The Huskies also lost in the JV game with the final score of 3-1.
Despite the loss, Mifflin County showed great sportsmanship as after the game was over, the Huskies honored the Palmyra seniors in Monette, Smith, Lindsay Malone, Maddie Julian, Lisi Heberling and Erin McCafferty.
From all of us at Hometown Sports, we would like to say to all of the seniors, Congratulations to all of you.
