By Kenny Varner

BELLEFONTE – Add another chapter to this rivalry!

Both the Bellefonte and Bald Eagle Area girls defenses put on a clinic Thursday night as the two combined for only 14 shots on goal for the entire game.

However, the Lady Eagles would sneak on if their seven in goal with just 13:47 left to lift the Eagles to the eventual 1-0 Mountain League win.

The winning goal would come off the foot of Abby Hoover for the lone goal, the assist went to Maura Cingle who sent the ball in from a Bald Eagle corner opportunity.

“Another great Bellefonte/Bald Eagle game. I thought the girls did well in possession tonight. Bellefonte’s defense was pretty stingy all night and didn’t give us many opportunities,” said Bald Eagle Area coach Jared Moore. “ Maura Cingle put a corner kick right on the money and Abby Hoover put it in the back of the net. We talk a lot about being aggressive in the box and Hoov came up clutch when we needed it.”

Opening the contest, both team’s defenses came out strong and made a strong statement that goals were going to be a hard thing to come by on this night.

Neither team allowed a single shot at either goal until the Eagles did it at 29:14 showing on the first half clock.

“These girls have been working hard and we have some tough losses and to see us come out of this losing just 1-0 is quite an improvement,” said Bellefonte coach Stacey Miller.

Both team’s finished with seven shots each and Bald Eagle Area held the slight edge in corners by a 4-3 margin.

Highlighting the night also was the goalie play. Bald Eagles’ Mackenzie Vozniak finished with seven saves while Bellefonte’s Emily Culp saved six.

After a scoreless first half, the game started to grow more and more intense as the game grew on.

Each time it would be the back-line of either defenses that would get the chance to clear the other teams ball out and put in their offenses hands.

But neither team was able to find a crack in the defenses armor. But that would not come until late in the contest.

Standing at the ball for a corner kick, Cingle shot the ball at the net and Hoover was able to quickly kick it I. For the game’s first and only score of the contest.

With the win Bald Eagle improves to 5-3 overall and 5-4 in the Mountain League.

In the JV contest, the two finished at a scoreless tie.
