Lady Huskies’ Senior Night Delight; tops Midd-West

LEWISTOWN – It was definitely a Senior night delight for the Lady Huskies Tuesday night.

The Mifflin County Girls field hockey team celebrated the careers of seniors Keni Kahley, Elizabeth Miller and Halle Kerstetter.

Two first half goals by the Lady Huskies proved to be enough as the defense held put in the second half to hold onto the 2-1 victory.

Defensively, Mifflin County goalie Colletta Beeler was clutch under pressure as was the defensive back-line as the escaped 16 corner opportunities, allowing just one goal out of it.

Keni Kahley got her team on the board first as she broke free of the defenders and then faked the Mustangs’ goalie and then blasted the first goal of the game at 11:07 left in the first half.

After knocking in the first goal, the Huskies continued to push the ball back down deep in Midd-West territory.

They were knocking at the door numerous times but just missed.

However, with 9:32 showing on the board, the Lady Huskies brought home goal number two as Alyssa Lynch brought the ball down into the front of the cage and hit a pass to Hailee Sheetz. Sheetz blasted a shot past the goalie and straight to the back of the cage.

From there the two teams battled back-and-forth but to no avail as the score stayed 2-0 going into the intermission.

Coming out of the half, Mifflin County came out with the advantage and immediately took the ball down into Mustang territory once again.

But that wouldn’t last long as Midd-West would take control and put the ball down into the Mifflin County side.

Despite numerous corner attempts to post a goal, the Huskies’ defense time-and-time again stood tall to the challenge.

But after numerous attempts and the time running down on the clock, the Lady Mustangs were able to chip one in.

After an eighth corner of the period, Midd-West’s Hayley Stahl clanked one in, cutting the Mifflin County lead in half at 2-1.

But this game belonged to the Lady Huskies as they were able to get the defensive protection they needed as they were able to fend off the Mustangs the rest of the way.

It was quite a way to start the week for the “Purple and Black” Attack.
