Lady Indians’ season ends at hands of Bearcats

HUNTINGDON – The Huntingdon girls basketball broke open a close contest in the final stanza going for 30 points while holding visiting Juniata to just nine en route to the 76-50 District 6 playoff victory.

Huntingdon got two 15-point performances from Kynnedy Miller and Kait McElroy.

Teammate Rin Reamer finished with 10. Emily Kurtz finished her night posting nine points and nine rebounds.

Juniata got a strong performance from beyond the arc by Mya Rush who finished with 16. Rush also had nine boards in a losing effort.

Talon Walton also performed well for the Lady Indians, posting a 14-point and 9-rebound showing.

Going into the third, the Bearcats led 31-24.

Juniata broke out of the intermission giving the ball to Rush who was all alone and sent one from beyond the arc, closing the gap to 31-27.

But for like most of the game, Huntingdon had an answer for a Lady Indian run.

Miller and McElroy both went 1-of-2 in consecutive trips to the basket, extending the game to a 6-point advantage with 4:53.

Emily Kurtz and McElroy scores again on consecutive baskets, hitting a triple and a bucket, respectively.

Trailing 38-27, Rush again chipped into the lead as she also went 1-for-2 from the charity stripe, making it a 10-point Huntingdon advantage.

Reamer added three more points to the Lady Bearcats lead as she roped a triple.

But the Lady Indians refused to give up as they went on a 5-0 run.

But Miller fires back and hits yet another triple, upping it to a 46-38 advantage.

But rounding out the period, Walton went for a personal five points to end the quarter, helping her team putting them within striking distance at 46-41.

But the Bearcats were about to catch fire as the opened on a 14-0 run to put the game on ice before Walton would get her team another bucket.

Huntingdon was back at again as they went on yet another run, this time an 11-0 run en route to the win.

In the first, Huntingdon has the advantage early, posting an 18-8 advantage.

Walton started the scoring hit 2-of-2 from the line, cutting it to an 8-point Huntingdon advantage.

On the following possession, Maddie Deforrest’s jumper took it back to a 10-point game with 6:47 left in the half.

Walton was relentless on the boards, tossing in another bucket bring it back to just a single-digit deficit.

Huntingdon followed with a 5-0 run on a triple by Rachel Kyle and a bucket by Kurtz.

Chloe Zendt stopped the mini run, making 2-of-2 from the line.

After a bucket by Reamer, Rush scored consecutive triple, cutting the lead to 27-20 with 2:21 left in the half.

After a time out, Walton kept the run going hitting 1-of-2 from the line.

Rush got her team a little bit closer posting another triple, making it a 4-point contest.

However, the Lady Bearcats ended the half on a 4-0 run.

With the loss, the Indians season ends and the Bearcats advance.
