Brumbaugh, Penn College punch ticket to United East Championship series

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. – Penn College shutout Penn State Harrisburg, 7-0, in the Volt Division Finals Saturday to punch its ticket to the United East Championship Series. The Wildcats (28-9) will make its fourth United East title appearance in program history when the Wildcats host the Skye Division Champions next Friday and Saturday in a three-game series.

Penn College did all of its offensive damage in the first two innings, with four runs in the first and three in the second, and Mackenzie Weaver fired a two-hit shutout to secure the victory.

Lexi Snyder gave Penn College a 2-0 lead when her single to center plated Maggie Mangene and Madison Herriman. Jesse Brumbaugh’s two-run double to right brought in Weaver and Snyder to give PCT a 4-0 lead. Mangene made it 5-0 with a grounder to second in the second to bring in Madison Shaffer, Grace Lorson drove in Herriman with a single, and Ivvy Morderdrew a bases-loaded walk to give PCT a 7-0 advantage.

Shaffer finished with three hits for Penn College, Weaver picked up a pair – including her 100th career hit – and Brumbaugh finished with two hits to lead the Wildcats at the plate. Weaver improved to 15-7 in the circle after four strikeouts and five walks in seven innings.
