Lady Tigers top Juniata Christian

COCOLAMUS – Marissa Coudriet scored a hat trick as the East Juniata Tigers defeated the Juniata Christian Lions in a very tough and exciting non-league girls soccer game on Monday by the final of 3-1.

Both teams appeared to be easily matched right from the start as East Juniata and Juniata Christian had a fairly even amount of opportunities to score a goal.

With just over 20 minutes remaining in the opening half, the Tigers finally got on the board first as Coudriet scored her first goal of the game.

Coudriet did not stop there as a few minutes later, she struck again and fired a shot that went straight to the back of the net and put East Juniata up 2-0 nothing.

But despite the fact that they were down by two goals, Juniata Christian refused to let that stop them from attacking as the tag team of Annika Martin and Peyton Burd led the charge.

One of the big opportunities that the Lions had to score in the first half came when Martin came running down on the outside and sent over a cross pass to Burd but her shot was wide.

Reanna Hoover took a chance on a direct kick and hammered one deep at the East Juniata net but the ball had flown over the net.

The biggest chance that the Lions had to score goals came in the closing seconds of the first half where Martin took a shot that was smacked away only to have the ball bounce over to Burd who tried to score only to have her shot tipped away by the Tigers’ defense.

With the score still at 2-0 going into the second half, the Lions continued to push forward, not allowing much time for the East Juniata defense little, if any time to breath.

Eventually that relentless attack from Juniata Christian came through as Peyton Burd knocked in a goal to cut the lead to 2-1.

15 minutes later, East Juniata would extend the lead as Coudriet charged towards Juniata Christian goalkeeper Morgan Moyer with a pair of defenders on her and still managed to get the shot off and completed the hat trick. Making it 3-1.

As the game drew closer to the end, East Juniata was facing heavy fire from the Lions as they kept coming and coming with non-stop pressure trying to close the gap on the 3-1 lead.

However, Juniata Christian was just unable to connect their shots in the net but continued to fight till the very end.

The shots on goal between the two teams were very close as East Juniata had 13 shots on goal while the Lions had 10 for the night.

The East Juniata girls soccer season has officially come to an end with an overall record of 6-11-1.

Juniata Christian is now 12-5 and will be heading into the ACAA playoffs as the number two seed and will play at Columbia County Christian against Calvary Christian Academy for a quarterfinal matchup Thursday.

Good Luck to the Juniata Christian Lions on their run for the ACAA Championship and Congrats to East Juniata seniors, Marissa Coudriet, Cypress Feltman, Andrea Baer and Mar Andreu Bernart. Best of Luck with your future plans. God Bless.
