LEWISTOWN – Although the Huskies not only had great defensive play, but also phenomenal goal play from Conner Zimmerman. But despite that, Mifflin County fell short to rival Waynesboro by the final score of 2-1 in overtime in Mid-Penn boys soccer action.
After nearly competing for almost half of the first half, Mifflin County took their first crack at a shot attempt as Gabriel Yoder shot a direct kick that sailed over the net.
The Indians then took advantage of their opportunity with 24:57 remaining. Sophomore Will Boltz moved the ball over to freshman Eric Jacobs with a cross pass and Jacobs then knocked the ball in.
The Huskies would showcase a lot of aggression in the second half of the game as Yoder again had another attempt which this time the ball bounced off a Waynesboro’s defender. It then rolled over near Gage Moore who looked to take the shot, only that Indians’ goalkeeper Bryson Staull who dove in and took the ball away from Mifflin County.
Eventually Mifflin County was able to get one in with 33:20 remaining as freshman Grady Hoppel shot the ball between the legs of Staull to even the game 1-1.
The closest that the Huskies came to take the lead came late in regulation as Hoppel again had a shot on goal that looped over the head of Staull and looked as though the ball going to go in but the ball bounced off the top left corner of the crossbar and then off the left post and rolled away.
In overtime, Waynesboro came out strong and three minutes into ot, the Indians’ Nik Sanders took advantage of a Mifflin County miscue and scored the game winner.
