LEWISTOWN – They are rolling now!!

Coming off their impressive win against Mechanicsburg on Tuesday, the MIfflin County girls basketball team opened up its second half of the season against the Red Land Patriots, a team which the Huskies defeated earlier in the season “in mercy rule” fashion.

However, this time around the contest was a little closer with the Lady Huskies sporting a 57-43 win.

The win was the Huskies fourth in a row and puts them 6-1 in conference play.

“That was not a masterpiece by any imagination but we did what we needed to to win and made enough plays to win. The reality of what happened was we came off a big win over Mechanicsburg on Tuesday and no matter how much I talked about it the girls remembered that we mercy ruled them down at Ted Land,” said MIfflin County coach Aaron Gingrich. “So it was very difficult to get into their minds to and keep them up knowing what they were up against.”

“ Anytime you hold a team in the 40’s it’s good. However, there will be plenty of teachable moments in this game. Fortunately, you like to do that in a win.”

The Huskies offense played a very tight offensive game only turning the ball seven times on the night.

Marrisa Gingrich led all scorers on the night with a 26-point effort along with six steals.

Teammates Mya Aumiller and Kate Knable finished with an 11-point and an 10-point effort, respectively.

Once again Brianna Bodtorf continued to work the boards and finish with 10 rebounds and seven points, despite being in foul trouble late in the contest.

In the first quarter, the Patriots came out and battled as they muscled in 13-points.

But the Huskies were one point better as Gingrich led the offensive attack with eight points. Highlighting her first quarter were two long buckets from beyond the arc.

Holding a 14-13 lead going into the second the Huskies started to stretch out its lead.

After a Kendall Metzel shot in traffic to temporarily take the lead, the Huskies took the ball right down the court and got it to Gingrich in the lane, giving back the lead to the Huskies.

After a Patriot turnover, the Huskies came down and worked the ball around.

Finally, the found an open Gingrich from behind the three-point line and she sent it home, upping it to a 19-15 ball game.

Red Land cut it to two when sharpshooter Carlee Collier, who finished with 10 points hit a long two with four minutes remaining in the half.

Mya Aumiller got the Huskies scoring started again as she was hacked going up for a shot and hit 1-of-2 from the line.

The Huskies again stopped the Patriot offense and brought the ball down court to add to their lead.

It would be Bodtorf that would get the nod as she hit 2-of-2 from the line after being pushed to the floor.

That would help lead to a run that 9-2 run to end the half.

Going into the the half, MIfflin County held a 28-19 advantage.

Playing in front of a large group of fans, led by the student section’s ‘Dawg Pound’ the Lady Huskies came out in the second half and continued to pad their lead as they outscored Red Land 29-24 securing the victory and putting the Lady Huskies winning streak at four.

“We really appreciate the large crowd we had tonight,” said Gingrich. “We really enjoyed all the wrestlers dressed up for ‘formal night’ and wish them well in their duals Saturday!”

In JV action, the Huskies fell 28-23. Leading scorer for MIfflin County was Amelia Leister with 11.
