Mifflin County girls XC team falls to Altoona

REEDSVILLE – The Mifflin County Girls Cross Country team hosted a tough Altoona squad and were defeated 16-45 on a hot Wednesday afternoon. It’s the time of the year when you hope cooler temperatures will lead to better race times but it’s also not uncommon to get some unseasonable weather. That is exactly what happened today with race time temperatures reading 83 degrees.

Since we had some cooler temperatures lately much of the heat acclamation the girls had at the beginning of the season is gone. We didn’t go into today’s race with high expectations. We love interacting with Altoona, they have great coaches and a quality program. Their top five runners at Carlisle on Saturday ran nearly the same as our number one runner, Amilia Coffey.

Despite knowing what we were up against, it was a great opportunity to try new things and to give opportunity for each of the girls to discover the best strategies to run their race. We had a plan and they stuck to it. Their mind is also on Saturday’s invitational in Gettysburg where many of them have PR’s on their mind. The temperatures should be much more conducive to that with a Varsity start time of 8:30am

Scoring for the Lady Huskies:

Amila Coffey- 22:24

Ava Kratzer- 25:22

Alexis Anderson- 26:27

Kahlen McCracken- 26:28

Caroline Palopoli- 27:14
