Mifflin County girls XC tops Central Dauphin East

The Cross Country Lady Huskies had their 2nd race in 3 days, 3rd in 6 days, on their home course Thursday. Their opponent, Central Dauphin East only had one athlete so they came away with a 15-50 win. The team has put a lot of racing work in during a short period but tonight we saw some improvements and they are learning how strong they really are.

We used this opportunity to show good sportsmanship toward the other team and to try some different things during the race. They ran in groups which developed good team work and helped some of them improve as they were grouped with a teammate that is a little stronger. It is amazing how well some of them ran when the “pressure was off”. It shows how mental the sport is and helps identify areas the team can grow in.
Amilia Coffey cruised in at first place with Ava Kratzer running 1 second behind her and clocking her season best, only 34 seconds off her career PR. Mary Kanagy and Caroline Palopoli ran together and although they crossed the finish line close, CD East runner, Erina Muhumed, fought hard and inserted herself between them. The last scorer of the evening was Cameran Shuey
Perhaps the biggest improvement was Falynn Reinard’s performance of the evening, besting her previous PR by 3 minutes and 31 seconds! I have been telling Falynn she has more in her than she thinks. She has been a sprinter with track and is new to learning distance running, but she is a great athlete. It was nice to see her continued work show dramatic improvement this evening; which should be a big boost to her confidence.
The Lady Huskies have off from racing this weekend but will face two strong schools on their home course, Tuesday, September 26 against Carlisle and Cumberland Valley.
