Milton Hershey tops MIfflin County in boys hoop action

LEWISTOWN – Mifflin County fell behind early and just could not recover as the Huskies were defeated by Milton Hershey by the final score of 72-46 in a Mid-Penn Conference boys basketball Tuesday night over at Mifflin County High School.

The Spartans showed their aggression early on in the first quarter starting the period on a 6-0 run forcing Mifflin County to call a timeout.

Alejandro Beriquete made his presence known offensively in the opening frame attacking inside the paint and put in some buckets. Beriquete scored 13 of the Spartans’ 20 total points scored in the quarter as well as scoring more than the Huskies in the frame which they only scored seven points with Landen Eichhorn scoring five of those points.

Milton Hershey took advantage of its size and continued to muscle the ball inside the paint. The Spartans opened the offense in the second quarter as seven different players had scored at least a basket in the period.

Mifflin County also was able to find multiple contributors offensively as well having five different players with at least a basket.

However, the Huskies were outscored 23-14 for the quarter as Milton Hershey took a 43-21 lead at the half.

Coming into the third quarter though, Mifflin County caught the Spartans off guard at the start with senior Quinton Hepner scoring the first four points of the period. The Huskies also got some offense from Aidan Reed who was battling it out with the bigs of Milton Hershey and together with Hepner, the duo combined for eight of the 15 total points scored for Mifflin County in the frame.

But once the Spartans settled things down, they went right back into their respective offense and attacked the paint for some buckets.

Milton Hershey had four different players who scored in double digits with Beriquete leading the way with 20 points, Larry Onabanwo had 14, Malachi Thomas scored 13 and Kenny Emile added another 10 points for the Spartans.

For Mifflin County, Eichhorn led with a team high of 12 points for the evening while Tagg Silfies added on another seven points for the Huskies.
The Huskies also were defeated by Milton Hershey in a very tightly contested JV game that went into overtime where Mifflin County was up 59-57 with mere seconds remaining before the Spartans got off a three point shot at the buzzer to take home a 60-59 victory.
