LEWISTOWN – Onward and upward!

The MIfflin County girls basketball team are on their way to bigger and better things!!

After making history earlier in the week, the Lady Huskies were able to keep their soon-to-be legendary run to another game, an appearance in the first round of the PIAA State Playoffs.

Saturday afternoon the MIfflin County girls hosted Erie McDowell in the play-in contest.

Like they have been all season, the Huskies were more than up for the challenge, winning 54-42.

The second half has always been good for MIfflin County as they seem to take over contests in the third.

Tonight was no different.

Mifflin County got strong offensive performances from Marissa Gingrich and Bri Bodtorf who scored 22 and 16, respectively.

Mya Aumiller added six in the victory.

The Trojans were led on the night by Ella Gebhardt who finished with 13 points.

The Huskies allowed only one McDowell player in double-digit scoring.

In the first quarter, MIfflin County took a very slim lead posting a 12-10 period.

Bodtorf led the charge as she hit from inside and outside with seven.

Both defenses stood strong in the second quarter as the two tied at 10, giving MIfflin County just a 2-point lead at the intermission.

Gingrich had things going with four points.

Coming out of the half, Gingrich came out and made a statement as she sizzled from the 3-point line, hitting three for a total of nine points.

Aumiller and Emma Weaver chipped in with four apiece.

Mifflin County opened things up a little, outscoring the Trojans 18-10 in the period.

When the final stanza got underway, the Lady Huskies had a solid 40-30 advantage.

In the fourth, the momentum continued to stay on the side of MIfflin County as they were able to keep McDowell from making any kind of run to cut into the Huskies’ lead.

Instead, the Huskies again outscored  the Trojans, this time it was a 14-12 quarter, solidifying the MIfflin County win by 12 points.

Mifflin County will face Bethel Park on March 8th.
