No. 1 Penn State Earns Dual Win vs. No. 8 Ohio State, 32-7

COLUMBUS, Ohio – No. 8 Ohio State (6-3, 2-3) fell to No. 1 Penn State (15-0, 7-0) Friday by the score of 32-7, at the Bryce Jordan Center in University Park, Pennsylvania.

How it Happened

125 | No. 10 Mailk Heinselman (OSU) vs. No. 6 Drew Hildebrandt (PSU)

Hildebrandt earned the first point of the bout with an escape to start the second period. That held throughout the third and with the addition of a point for riding time, Hildebrandt won by decision, 2-0.

133 | Brady Koontz (OSU) vs. No. 1 Roman Bravo-Young (PSU)

Bravo-Young scored first with a pair of takedowns and led after the first period, 6-2. The top-ranked Nittany Lion then won by fall at 6:31.

141 | No. 20 Dylan D’Emilio (OSU) vs. No. 1 Nick Lee (PSU)

Lee led after the first period 4-1 on a pair of takedowns and a D’Emilio escape. Lee added another takedown in the second and led 6-2 heading to the third where he went on to earn a win by major decision, 13-3.

149 | No. 2 Sammy Sasso (OSU) vs. No. 18 Beau Bartlett (PSU)

There was no score after the first period. Sasso scored with an escape early in the second and led 1-0 with two minutes to go. Bartlett then scored a reversal to take a 2-1 lead. Sasso then got the escape and takedown to win by decision, 4-2. Sasso has now won 28-consecutive dual matches and is 23-0 in Big Ten duals. He is 6-1 vs. ranked opponents this year.

157| Isaac Wilcox (OSU) vs. Terrell Barrachough (PSU)

Wilcox, wrestling in his Big Ten dual, kept the match scoreless in the first. Barrachough escaped to start the second for the 1-0 lead. Wilcox scored a takedown in the third and Barrachough escaped to tie it a 2-all headed into sudden victory, where he scored a takedown late to win, 4-2.

165 | Kevon Freeman (OSU) vs. Creighton Edsell

Freeman also was wrestling in his first dual at Ohio State. The bout was scoreless after the first two periods and remained that way going into sudden victory. Edsell then scored a takedown to win, 2-0.

174 | No. 7 Ethan Smith (OSU) vs. Mason Manville

Smith scored four takedowns in the first period to lead 8-3 while also building two minutes of riding time after three minutes. Smith increased the lead to 12-4 after two and went on to win by major decision, 15-5.

184 | Rocky Jordan (OSU) vs. No. 1 Aaron Brooks (PSU)

Brooks led after the first period, 2-1 and won by fall early in the second at 3:20.

197 | No. 21 Gavin Hoffman (OSU) vs. No. 2 Max Dean (PSU)

There was no score through the first period. Hoffman scored on an escape late in the second to lead 1-0 with two minutes to go. Dean scored a reversal early and Hoffman countered with a reversal of his own in the third to take a 3-2 lead. The match went into sudden victory tied 3-all with Dean earning a point for riding time at the end of regulation. Dean then got the takedown for the 5-3 win.

HWT | No. 13 Tate Orndorff (OSU) vs. No. 5 Greg Kerkvliet (PSU)

Kerkvliet led 2-1 after the first period on a takedown and Orndorff escape. The match ended with Kerkvliet winning by major decision, 10-2.
