Game Notes:

Penns Valley marked their first win of the season against an undefeated Philipsburg team that came into the game at 4-0. Philipsburg opened the match with a dangerous attack right from the starting tap and nearly scored 20 seconds in. Both teams settled in until P-O took a throw-in off the left touchline and slipped the ball past PV keeper Dristen Wolfe for the first goal of the game in the 4th minute. Just over ten minutes later, Penns Valley netted the equalizer after a takedown in the box set up a PK. Midfielder Michael “Dennis” Johnson drilled a perfect shot into the upper right corner to set the score at 1-1. Penns Valley mounted a smartly controlled attack for the next 20 minutes or so and kept the ball in P-O’s half for much of the time. A high chip from the center off the foot of midfielder Connor Martz set up the game winner when Michael Johnson flicked a header into the upper right corner just over the hands of the P-O keeper in the 33rd minute. The rest of the first half and the 2nd 40 minutes of the match saw physical and fast-paced play by both teams as Penns Valley repelled several dangerous attacks by the Mounties. In the end, Penns Valley held on to preserve a much-needed win after the previous week’s close contests – both of which they lost by only one goal.

Record: 1-2
