BELLEFONTE – Scores can be very deceiving when you look at it on paper, the Red Raiders football team battled hard against a very tough Bishop Guilfoyle team Friday.
Early on the Red Raiders were hanging tough, trailing only 14-6 after the first quarter.
However, the Marauders heated up in the second quarter taking advantage of some Bellefonte miscues for a 35-point second quarter en route to the 49-6 victory.
Defensively, the Red Raiders were able to capture two interceptions on the night.
“We saw some positive stuff from our offense tonight. Offense is where we really struggled last week and even the week before, said Bellefonte coach Anthony Confer. “Any positive thing we can get from our offense is certainly something we can build on. We had more opportunities tonight. We just shot ourselves in the foot. A lot of undisciplined penalties that got us in bad positions. I can’t question the kids efforts or their physicality. Coming out here against a very good football team.
In the first possession of the game, the Marauders marched down the field and directly to the Red Raiders 2-yard line.
From there Bishop Guilfoyle’s Jake Kissell scored on a 2-yard TD run.BG kicker Michael Cacciotti’s PAT made it an early 7-0 lead with 9:38 still in the first.
Bishop Guilfoyle’s defense held the Red Raiders to a punt, giving them the ball at the Marauders 41.
From there, the Marauders went on a 7-play drive that put themselves back in the end zone.
Chase Kissell tossed a 3-yard pass to Brandon Reilly with 4:05 in the period.
But the Red Raiders picked up a spark in the waning moments of the first quarter.
Bellefonte’s Braden Bickle picked off a Kissell offering and ran it back to the Marauder’s 38.
Offensively, things started to click.
Sherman Lowry broke off a 15-yard run with 1:44 left in the first, cutting it to a 14-6 contest.
Along came the the second quarter and the Bishop Guilfoyle offense were ready to make that move as they exploded for 35-second half points to jump ahead 49-6.
Hayden Wyandt started the scoring as he cashed one in from 7-yards out at 10:06.
Teammate Ryan Hagg was the next to find the end zone as he broke free and marched in on a 13-yard run, still with 7:40 left on the board.
The opportunists continued to come from the Marauders as they scored again at 4:13 Hamilton Gates 21-yard TD run, at 4:13.
Offensively, Bishop Guilfoyle was connecting through the air as Chase Kissell thrown for 145 yards.
At 3:57, Chase Kissel 9-yard pass to Braden Reilly for the TD, upping it to a 42-6 ball game.
Rounding out the scoring on a Chase Kissell 6-yard TD pass Trent Adams (Cacciotti kick), with 1:00 left.
Coming out of the second half, the Red Raiders came out firing as they were able to keep the Marauders off the board. The team played with pride and refused to allow any more.
