Reed: MC basketball team finishes season as D6 runner up

CRESSON – The 9-12 State College Little Lions welcomed  the 10-12 Mifflin County Huskies at Mount Aloysius on Saturday night for the right to win the District 6 title.

The Little Lions came into this game looking for a third straight district six 6A title and 21st all time first one was in 1926.

Meanwhile, Mifflin County made their third trip to a district six championship game.

It was a true battle for both teams as the Huskies got on the board first coming from a free throw from Jayden Bilger to make it 1-0.

Mifflin County Bilger would have 13 points on the night.

Junior point guard Aidan Attivo totaled 14 points on the night four of his three pointers came in the second period Attivo had himself a night.

On the other side for the Little Lions Luke Torbic led his team in scoring totaling 16 points.

Torbic was all over the court playing well on both sides of the ball.

Reed Melvin was second in scoring totaling 14.

“We knew this would be a process when we started preparing in the spring very happy for our guys good work to get us to this point we fought in the district title game something we haven’t done in a while state college hats off to them state college shot the ball very well they came out with the win tonight,”   said Mifflin County coach Wade Curry. “There are a lot of great young guys coming up. Attivo had a great night tonight offensively. We are looking forward in what we have in store. I know they are going to work hard we will accept this as a challenge. We will look at this for an opportunity prepare more for the next season.”

“This experience really taught us a lot we knew this was going to be a dog fight overall this year,” said Aidan Attivo. “We’ve  learned a lot we won’t let that take away from the Mechanicsburg win and our record this year. We haven’t done that in Mifflin County in awhile in decades. It was a good season, we know it was going to be a dog fight there’s alot to take from it.”

Zach Keller scored all of his points in the fourth period totaling seven points Keller helped spark Mifflin County late in the fourth.

Jack Curry totaled 10 points on the night knocking down some big ones.Late in the game State College would break away on some costly turnovers from the Husky boys leading to a 51-44 defeat for the Mifflin County Huskies.
