Ending the first day of its annual Juniata Valley Football League Championship weekend was a battle of Mifflin County versus Centre when Mifflin County North kicked off against Penns Valley in the Tennis Towing Bowl.
It quite the way to end the open day festivities as the two battled back and forth until the final whistle.
Trailing for much of the contest, Mifflin County North found enough of offense when it counted to win 14-12.
Mifflin County wasted little time to get on the board first as it took ifs second possession of the game and marched down the field on an 11-play drive that culminated on a Husky touchdown by Preston Ettinger. MC went for two points and were successful when Brayden Sunderland found Joshua Maldonado for completion.
Leading 8-0, the Husky defense kept the Rams in check for much of the first half.
However, with one tick left on the clock in the half, Carson Webster scored on a 60-yard run, cutting the lead to 8-6.
But the Huskies would spoil the extra point attempting, ending the first half at 8-6.
Both teams battled in the third quarter and refused to let the other score.
Mifflin County added another touchdown early in the fourth when Ettinger scored from seven yards out, making it 14-6 with 9:51 left.
The Rams refused to go away as it posted a touchdown with 20 seconds left.
Alex Page rolled 12 yards to put Penns Valley within a 2-point conversion if tying the game at 14-12.
However, the Mifflin County defense stood tall one last time and kept the Rams out of the end zone giving the Huskies the victory.
