Ring that Bell! Bald Eagle has late scoring spree to top PV

SPRING MILLS – It was shoot out in Spring Mills.

Friday night the Bald Eagle Area football team traveled to Penns Valley to even its record to 2-2 while the Rams were looking to keep its undefeated streak alive.

Going into the final quarter, the Eagles found themselves behind 21-20.

But an explosion big runs by Bald Eagle running back Trey Green were too much for the Rams to overcome as the Eagles went onto the 42-27.

Green ran consecutive long runs, one for 66-yards and the other from 82. He finished with three touchdowns and a game high 190 yards on the ground.

Quarterback Carson Nagle had the hot hand as he threw for 298 yards through the air and 52 yards on the ground.

In the process of finishing with 616 total yards, the Eagles came out the winner in the Battle for the Old Bell.

“Offensively, I can’t say enough about those guys. They threw the ball at will all the time. They did a great job upfront,” said Bald Eagle coach Jesse Nagle. “We had both the running game and passing game working. If we can handle guys upfront like that we’ll be okay.”

Penns Valley was led by quarterback Jackson Romig. Romig finished with 159-yards passing and 26 yards rushing.

Penns Valley finished with 280 total yards on the evening.

In the first, the Bald Eagle defense forced the Rams to punt in its opening posesssion, giving the Eagles the ball at their own 25.

However, Nagle and company came out firing thanks to a 31-yard hook up to Kahale Burns, putting the Eagles into Rams territory.

Four plays later, Nagle found Green out in the flats as Green did the rest, scoring from six yards out for the 6-yard touchdown catch.

With the Kaden Burns’ PAT, Bald Eagle held the 7-0 advantage.

But back battled the Rams as they went on a scoring drive of their own.

Penns Valley rolled down the field on a 9-play drive that culminated in a 1-yard run by Romig, tying things at seven.

That’s how the score would remain until Bald Eagle exploded late in the second quarter.

Both defenses, took over the tempo not allowing much yardage.

But with the half looking very close, Cameron Dubbs would get his team some breathing g room as he broke out a and scored on an 8-yard TD run, upping the score to a 14-7 advantage.

With only seconds left, the Eagles got the ball with one last chance to up the lead before the intermission.

Starting final drive of the half, the Eagles had 50 seconds left.

They would only need 41.

With nine ticks left on the clock, Nagle hit Gavin Eckley in stride for a 20-yard touchdown connection.

However, the Rams were able get partially block the PAT, sending it off course.

Despite being down, the Rams refused to stay down without a fight.

Coming into the third quarter, the Penns Valley offense started to heat up as the Eans marched down the field.

On the ninth play of the drive, running back Ty Watson muscled his way through for the 1-yard TD, cutting the Bald Eagle lead to 20-14.

The Penns Valley special teams came up large partially blocking a Penns Valley punt deep in Eagles territory.

With good field possession and the ball sitting on the Eagles 22, the Eams made the most of its opportunity.

It would take only three plays to score as Romig ran it in from 20-yard s out. The Watson kick gave the Rams the lead at 21-20.

But the fourth quarter belonged to the Eagles.

The points fell early and often as the two combined for 28 points.

Nagle put up a TD pass to Elliot Splain, going 32 yards with 11:54 left. With the successful 2-point conversion, the Eagles led 28-21.

One play later, the Rams took back the momentum.

Romig hooked up with a wide open Watson for a 54-yard touchdown catch, bringing the home team within one.

But the Eagles’ defense would partially blocked the PAT, keeping Bald Eagle holding one to a slim 28-27 advantage.

After holding the Rams offense in its next possession, the big men on the offensive line made holes for Green as he scampered for two touchdowns, putting the game out of reach.
