Saint Joseph’s outlasts Bald Eagle in opener

WINGATE – It was quite an exhausting day for the Bald Eagle Area and Saint Joseph’s goalies as the two were engaged in a very defensive battle from the very beginning.

In the end, the Wolves would take the victory over the Eagles, 2-1 in the opener of the Bald Eagle Season opening soccer tournament .

Goalie Nick Coskin came up clutch numerous times in the contest for Saint Joseph finishing with eight saves while the Eagles got a 5- shot save effort from Clayton Reigh.

Bald Eagle Area outshot Saint Joseph’s 20-9 while both teams tied in corner opportunities with four each.

While trailing by a goal, the Eagles offense came out and pushed the ball hard at the Saint Joseph goal.

They pounded shot and after shot but was not able to capitalize on the pressure.

It would be the Wolves that would take the first score of the second.

During a battle in the back-third, Christopher Forstmier battled through his defender and slid one past Reigh, making it a 2-0 advantage.

However, the Eagles refused to go away empty handed as they were able to cut the lead in half when Carter Stere sent a penalty shot to the right side of the goal, making it a 2-1 contest.

Both defenses took over from there as neither team were able to send another through.

In the first half,  the Wolves started out putting pressure on the Bald Eagle defense as it continued to bring the ball into the back-third.

It would prove to be a difference maker early on as they pressed the ball inside, leading to a Bald Eagle Area own goal at 21:31.

Bald Eagle had troubles early trying to get past the Wolves back-third of Natalie Page, Aeden Hall and Christopher Lowkowski. The trio did not allow a shot on goal until the 12:30 mark of the fist half.

After that the Eagles had its chances and started to be able to penetrate the middle.

Led by the tough inside play by Noah Geidroc. Geidroc would help his team get five chances at the goal in this final minutes.

Defensively, Bald Eagle was just as successful in goal as it only allowed  three shots in the half.
