UNIVERSITY PARK – To beat a tough Mount Union baseball team once is a hard task.

Beating them twice is almost unheard of.

Three times in almost an impossible fete.

However, no one seemed to tell the Bald Eagle baseball team this Saturday as the two teams met for the third and final time in the PIAA State Championship game at Medlar Field.

Offensively, the Eagles came out swinging while pitcher Tyler Serb had his pitches working, taking the PIAA title game 11-0 in five innings.

Ironically, the only losses amount Union had this season were all to the Bald Eagles, posting a 25-3 record.

Serb was in control all morning posting a 2-hitter en route to the shut out.

After holding the Trojans off the base paths in the first, the Bald Eagles started its offensive attack early by scoring three runs.

Serb immediately helped his cause in the first, smacking a single past the shortstop.

Tayten Yoder reached on an error on a fly ball. He hustled his way to second while Serb moved to third on the play.

Justin Bisel’s sacrifice fly earned him an RBI as Serb tagged up and scored the first run of the game.

Yoder advanced also, moving to third.

Carson Nagle’s RBI double was good enough to score Yoder easily, 2-0.

Parker Quick made Nagle’s stay on base a short one, plastering a triple into right field, giving the Bald Eagles an early 3-0 advantage.

Again Serb remained in control on the mound as he allowed just one runner on in the second.

Bald Eagle added another run to its lead in the second.

With two outs, Kahale Burns walks and moves up a base on a steal, putting him in scoring position for Serb.

Serb did not disappoint as he singled in Burns, giving himself and his team a comfortable 4-0 advantage heading into the third.

After a 1-2-3 top of the third, the Eagles exploded in the third and put the game out of reach, posting seven runs.

Nagle led off with a single to left.

Quick came through once again as he singled into left, putting runners on first and second with one out.

Catcher Kaden Burns singles in Nagle to keep the momentum going.

Gavin Eckley took a strike out and made a positive out of it, hustling out a third strike and moving his teammates up a base.

Cam Watkins singled in both Quick and Burns to stretch their lead to 7-0.

Kahale Burns walked.

Serb was deadly once again at the plate, posting an RBI single that would score Eckley.

Yoder blasted a RBI triple that cleared the bases, giving his team an 11-0 lead going into the fourth.

That would be all the runs Serb would need as he took care of the fourth and fifth, closing the game in five innings while clinching the state championship.
