State College 10s Magical season comes to an end, finishes as Region 4 Runner ups

STATE COLLEGE – It was a magical run!!

Thursday night the State College 10U All-Star softball team went up against a tough Clymer team in a winner-take-all contest.

At stake was a Region 4 title and a trip to State competition.

The teams met for the third-day in-a-row.

Though it was a spirited effort, the Lady Little Lions fell to Clymer 11-0, ending a thrill ride of a season that earned them the moniker “The Comeback kids”.

Clymer hurler Reese Mahaffey was strong on the mound once again tossing a 2-hit shut out. She also finished with eight strikeouts.

Picking up the two hits for for State College were Brooklyn Reed and Milana Rowe.

Clymer’s offense was led by Alyssa Houser, Izzy Cooper and Mahaffey.

Houser went 3-for-4 with three RBIs. Mahaffey helped her own cause going 3-for-4, scoring four times and driving in three RBIs.

Cooper also went 3-for-4, round out the 3-hit players.

State College pitcher Calysta Steffie still managed to crank out eight strikeout before being injured in the last inning.

The game was closer than the final score showed as the contest was a 5-0 contest going into the fifth.

In the first, Clymer scored two to get the game going.

Houser led off with an infield single. She stole second and scored on a Mahaffey triple to right field.

Mahaffey later scored on a sacrifice fly by Annika Brooks.

Clymer added a run in the second as Alyssa Hoover doubled in Maria Mountain, upping the lead to 3-0.

Things continued to roll for Clymer as Mahaffey singled in Kendra Pavlosky. Mahaffey later stole home, increasing their lead to 5-0.

That would be all that they would need as Mahaffey had her A-game going shutting out State College.

However, despite the loss, the future of State College softball is in good hands as the Little Lady Lions finished the season as District 5 champion and Region 4 runner up.
