State College 12Us top MIfflin County in All-Star opener

STATE COLLEGE -Strong pitching and strong hitting by the State College Softball 12Us proved to be too much for visiting MIfflin County as they topped MC 14-2 after four innings.

With the threat of rain lingering before and during the game, State College hurler Paige Moriarta struck out nine while giving up just one hit.

The lone hit came from Maci Pietzsch in the top of the fourth.

In the first, State College scored two in the bottom of the first.

Moriarta started off the inning reaching base on a MIfflin County miscue.

Joslin Adam’s blasted a triple to the gap in left centerfield, scoring Moriarta.

Adams scored on a wild pitch, ending the first inning scoring at 2-0.

In the second, Moriarta kept the MIfflin County bats in check, striking out three of five batters.

Things started to sizzle offensively in the second, plating seven.

With one out, Ayda Newman started the hitting as she smoked a single into center.

Kate Gilmore followed with a single of her own.

Victoria Witmer loaded the bases when she reached on a walk.

Both Gilmore and Newman scored on wild pitches.

Witmer scored on an RBI single by lead off batter Sarah Mellott, upping it to 5-0.


Ali Shirf laid down a bunt single.

Moriarta helped her own cause posting an RBI sacrifice fly.

Adams notched her second hit of the young ball game as she hustled out an infield single.

Ryleigh Parette followed with a walk.

Both scored on a 2-RBI single by Kaitlyn McShay, giving State College the 9-0 advantage.

In the third, MIfflin County manufactured two runs as Layla Osman and Jayda Kanagy scored after reaching on walks, cutting it to 9-2.

State College added five more in the bottom of the third as the rain started to come down hard onto the field.

In the top of the fourth, Maci Pietzsch refused to allow the no-hitter as she roped the ball down into right.

But it wasn’t enough as State College went on for the victory.
