By Kenny Varner

STATE COLLEGE – Crown them the champs!

In the title match between the best of the District 2 and District 6, the State College Girls Lacrosse team was up for the challenge as they defeated Delaware Valley in a 20-6 contest.

Sally Stahl led the offensive charge for the Little Lions as she posted five goals in the victory. The performance earned her more than a hat trick.

Elaina Ohlson hoisted a strong stick as she posted a 4-goal afternoon.

Emily Hall posted a hat trick as did Ariana Angus. The four players were responsible for 15 of their team’s 20 total points.

Despite the Warriors scoring the first goal of the contest, they very rarely made their way into the State College defensive end.

When they did, Little Lions’ goalie Grace Jones was tough in the cage.

The Lady Warriors got a strong effort from Bailey Fedun who posted a 4-goal effort.

The game started out as a close contest as the Warriors scored first by Lauren Matarazza, giving them the early 1-0 lead.

Stahl brought her team back to tie and then took the lead at 2-1 on consecutive goals.

Hall made it 3-1 with 22.39 left in the first.

But then it looked as though Delaware Valley put themselves back within striking distance as Fedun cut it to 3-2.

But the night belonged to State College as it posted six consecutive goals to up the lead to 9-2.

The Lady Little Lions held the Warriors at bay to the 7:59 mark when Fedun notched goal number two.

But it would be too little too late as the Little Lions cruised and sent the game in to the mercy-rule contest with seconds left in the first half.

When the two teams went into the intermission, State College led 13-3.

In the second half, the Lions were able to get some strong bench play and still outscore their opponent 7-3 en route to the win and most importantly the District 6/2 title.

The also qualified for the PIAA State Playoffs.
