State College shines in prime time against Mifflin County

With the end of the 2021 regular fall season winding up the State College girls volleyball team made a statement Thursday night when they hosted foe Mifflin County.

In the end, it would be the more experienced Little Lions that would come out on top topping the Huskies in three sets.

State College won their games 25-5, 25-15, 25-8.

Bringing their A-game from the very beginning, the Lions rolled out in the first game on a 5-0 scoring run. Picking up the first five service points was Kate Lally. Lally would be one of the main contributors on the evening, posting 22 service points in the win.

After a Mifflin County side out, Mifflin County picked up a service point. State College forced a side out of their own and then handed the ball to Iris Archibald and she posted six points. Highlighting the run was strong upfront play by Ana Witmer. Witmer dominated the front row sending clutch cross court blasts, blocks and spikes.

When the Huskies forced another side out, State College held a very strong 12-2 advantage.

The Huskies did their best forcing the Little Lions into long volleys but could never get that final stop.

Leading 12-3, State College notched a side out and put it into the sure hands of Sophie Wales. Wales continued State College’s clutch serving attempts adding three of her own.

Mifflin County battled back to force a side out.

Holding a 15-4 advantage, the Little Lions rallied once again. This time stepping up to the service line was Sam Shala. Shala also sizzled at the line as she continued the State scoring with four more points, upping it to an 18-4 advantage.

Rounding out the scoring the rest of the way was Claire Jordan who put the game on ice, with a 25-5 victory.

In the second game, the Huskies refused to go away a fight and they battled throughout and kept within striking distance for most of the contest before a late run by State College put the contest at 25-15.

In the final game, State College got a chance to get some of their bench players some much valued varsity time and they did not disappoint.

The second and third groups did not miss a beat, winning going away by a 25-8 margin.
