Bald Eagle boys battle but falls to Mounties

It was a tough night for the Bald Eagle Area boys basketball team as they suffered a road loss to Philipsburg-Osceola Wednesday, 61-48.

Bald Eagles’ man in the middle, Nick Maynard led the way with another double-double 16 pts & 14 rebounds while aden Jones added 14 pts and is now at 1054 pts for his career.

Leading the way offensively for the Mounties was Ryan Whitehead with 17 points. He was followed by brother Jeremy Whitehead with a 16-point effort. Jeremy Whitehead and De Simone both collected two triples.

Teammate Jacob De Simone rounded out the double-digit scorers with 15.

The Mounties opened the contest outscoring the Eagles 14-11 after one quarter.

But Bald Eagle bounced back in the second, outscoring PO 17-14.

The two went into the intermission tied at 28.

In the third, the Mounties defense held the Eagles to just five as its offense produced 17 to push ahead with a 12-point lead going into the fourth quarter.

The two went head-to-head in the final period but Philipsburg-Osceola was able to hold to the 61-48 victory.

In JV action, the Eagles stayed close but fell by nine points to the Mounties, 46-37.

High scorers for BEA were Hayden Vaughn with nine points and Everett Herr also posting nine.   

Next up for the Eagles is Tyrone at home for Senior Night.
