Bellefonte holds onto nail biting win over PO

It was quite a battle!

The Bellefonte boys basketball team scratched and clawed its way to a nail biting 58-57 victory Friday night over host Philipsburg-Osceola.

Ben McCartney has the hot hand throughout the contest as he posted a game-high 28-point effort to help lead his team to the victory.

On the Mounties’ side, the home team was led by Ryan Whitehead who netted 24 points to help his team stay in the game.

Bellefonte got on top early as it outscored Philipsburg-Osceola 17-9.

Leading the way offensively was McCartney as he put in eight points.

PO’s leading scorer in the first was Whitehead with four.

As the game went into the second period, the momentum started to switch over to the Mounties’ side.

PO outscored Bellefonte 18-11 in the period.

However, the Red Raiders would still take a 28-27 lead going into the half.

Leading the second quarter charge for PO was Ryan Whitehead with seven.

Bellefonte continued to keep a strangle hold on the lead, outscoring Philipsburg-Osceola 20-16 in the process.

In the final stanza, the Mounties made a run at the Red Raiders lead, outscoring them 14-10 in the period but it was too little, too late as the Red Raiders held on for the hard fought victory.
