EJ field hockey plays tough but falls to Mustangs

Midd-West 4, East Juniata 2,
After a strong start, the East Juniata Tigers field hockey team fell late to Miss-West on Wednesday afternoon.
EJ’s record is 0-1 overall and 0-0 in the league since they have not played any league games yet.
The Tigers play Greenwood at Greenwood tomorrow night.
The scorers for EJ were Laney Dowling in the first half at 16 seconds left in the half and Emily Knepp in the second half at 18:51. Sarah Goss assisted Emily Knepp’s goal. Madi Beward had 10 saves. For Midd West, all of the goals were scored in the second half. Beth Wagner at 27:41 assisted by Brenna Brown, Jaylynn Blair at 22:38 assisted by Mariah Stuck, Beth Wagner at 21:31 assisted by Breeann Sheaffer, and Breann Sheaffer at 15:42. Their goalie had seven saves. Overall, EJ had seven shots on goal and Midd West had 14 shots on goal. EJ had eight corners and Midd West had 12. The JV scored was EJ 1, Midd West 1. Macie Baumgardner scored for EJ.
This was East Juniata’s first game after having a game yesterday cancelled due to the weather. The girls played strong and scored first and were leading at half time. “The girls did have some first game jitters, but kept playing to the end and ended up with a 4-2 game, said East Juniata coach Harley Straub. “All of the girls worked hard and played well together.”
There was great passing and working together to move the ball up the field. They ended the game with some great playing and plan to carry that over to tomorrow’s game against Greenwood.
