Greenwood tops Juniata in Thursday TVL showdown

The Juniata Indians stayed in it until the end, but Greenwood pulled away late in an 18-8 victory on Thursday. The game was tied at six with Greenwood batting in the bottom of the fourth.

Despite the loss, Juniata did collect nine hits in the high-scoring affair. Unfortunately, the Wildcats had 22 hits on the way to victory.

Greenwood captured the lead in the first inning. The Wildcats scored two runs when Harris-kline doubled.

Greenwood took the lead for good with two runs in the fourth inning. In the fourth, Tyler Sherman singled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run.

The Wildcats scored six runs in the sixth inning. The offensive onslaught by Greenwood was led by Kyle Corkle, Sherman, Sam Myers, Gavin Jones, and Nico Niamo, all driving in runs in the inning.

Corkle was on the mound for Greenwood.

The ace lasted one inning, allowing four hits and three runs while striking out one and walking zero.

Jordan Dickinson led things off on the pitcher’s mound for Juniata. The lefthander lasted four innings, allowing 11 hits and seven runs while striking out one and walking one. Mason Cooper, Grant Reinhold, and Luis Carabello each contributed in relief for the Indians.

Juniata tallied nine hits in the game. Reinhold and Jerret Condo each had multiple hits for the Indians. Reinhold went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Juniata in hits. Daniel Freed led the  Indians with two stolen bases, as they ran wild on the base paths with eight stolen bases.

Greenwood racked up 22 hits in the game. Corkle, Wirth, Sherman, Fegley, Harris-kline, Niamo, Danko, and Jones all had multiple hits for Greenwood HS. Corkle led the Wildcats with five hits in five at bats. Greenwood stole six bases during the game as two players stole more than one. Sherman led the way with two. Greenwood didn’t commit a single error in the field. Jones had the most chances in the field with seven.
