Juniata matmen roll up eight pins in win over CMVT

COCOLAMUS – Less than a day after winning a thriller against TVAA foe Upper Dauphin 32-31, the Juniata wrestlers were back on the mats at its second home at East Juniata High School in a bout with Columbia Valley Montoursville Vo-Tech.

The Rams came into the meet posting a 1-0 record, defeating Loyalsock 39-30 on December 5th.

Juniata also came in with the perfect 1-0 record.

The Indians were also holding its annual Blackout event. The event was established to honor the life of former wrestler Cameron “Cam” Sweigart who tragically passed away in a car accident two years ago.

The Juniata matmen rallied behind the cause showing no worse for wear as they dominated Columbia Montoursville Volleyball-Tech 57-12.

In the process, Juniata tallied eight pins en route to the victory.

“We went out and used moves. That was the big thing. We wanted to see them use good techniques and they did that,” said Juniata coach Adam Barrick. “They went out and hit good technique that’s why we were able to get a lot of pins in.

With the contest starting at 139, Juniata got on the board quickly when he dominated Anthony Albertson in the first and then picked up the fall at 3:56.

Teammate Ryder Smith was successful on an early shoot to the Rams Patrick English resulting in a 0:15 pin, making it a 12-0 advantage.

The pins continued to add up as the Indians made it 3-in-a-row at the 152-pound weight class. Jerry Cordova took his match with Levi Fraley into the second before managing to pin his shoulders to the mat for a Fall at 3:13.

However, the Rams were able to pick up the nod at 160. The Rams Noah Moyer got an early second period pin over over Charlie Telfer at 1:12, cutting it to an 18-6 contest.

Offensively, the Indians were back at at 172 when Javier Lopez pinned  Elizabeth Davidson at 1:31.

It took a minute for things to be decided at 189. Harrison Mummah dominated in his pin over Kaleb Henrie at 1:00.

In the 215-pound weight class it would be another clean pin for the home team. Kelton Bonnell won by fall over Dalton Roth at 1:37.

In the only decision of the night, 285-pounder Lane Peiper from the Indians battled to take home a close 7-3 victory over Brayden Benjamin.

At 107, Neither team was able to provide a wrestler do they had to settle for a Double Forfeit.

Juniata’s 114-pounder Anthony Maradiaga pinned Landen Hess by Fall at 1:39.

The Rams took the 121-pound weight class as Zander Billings took down Joseph Bomberger in the second, securing a Fall at 3:11.

127-pounder Coy Kerstetter added his name to the list of pins by his team, pinning Mason Vansock at 0:13.

Rounding out the contest at 133: Big Red’s Colten Rowles finished things the way his team started, with a pin. Rowles pinned Bryce Lacey in only 0:36, securing the 57-12 victory.
