Lady Raiders top Bald Eagle 2-0

WINGATE – In the first edition of the yearly rivalry of the Bald Eagle Area girls and Bellefonte girls soccer, the Red Raiders scored two first half goals and then used its defense to hold on for the shut out victory over the friendly rival Monday in an evening affair.
Bellefonte opened the game with the ball and took the momentum from the very beginning and for most of the first half controlled the ball deep in the Eagles back third. After the first four minutes, Megan Elnitski, who scored the first goal, battled Bald Eagles’ goalie and pushed a shot through, making it 1-0.
The Red Raiders continued to push the ball down into the Eagles’ end.
Despite the early goal, the Bald Eagle Area defense was able to keep the Bellefonte squad off the board for much of the rest of the half but with 10:43 left in the period, Lindsay Kaufman found the back of the net once again, upping the lead to 2-0.
From there, the defenses took over and the Lady Raiders came out victorious.
Bellefonte led in corners by a 4-0 margin.
The Red Raiders also held the advantage in shots on goal, by a 13-5.
BEA goalie Charlee Harris had 11 saves. Bellefonte’s Gabbie Pighetti tallied five saves.
