Late Friday: Mifflin County Football notches first win in an emotional homecoming night

What a homecoming!!

There were many emotional moments Friday night as the Mifflin County football team completed a night of tributes and homecoming triumphs to break into the winning column by defeating Big Springs in a big way, 40-27.

Before the game, the Huskies honored fallen former coach Harry Aultz, who passed away in January. He was the victim of a drunk driver.

Also, they honored former longtime baseball coach and former standout baseball player Rodney”The Hammer” Henry who recently lost a strong courageous battle with cancer.

This game was never in question as the Huskies pounded out 27 points in the first half while defense allowed just a touchdown.

Quarterback Brycen Hassinger went 8-16 for 122 yards through the air and 19 rushes for 164 yards with a touchdown. He also threw for two touchdowns in the win. The Huskies QB also ran for a score.

Runningback Gage Schaeffer was also unstoppable, posting a 170-yard game and two touchdowns.

Rodney Henry III, who dedicated his game to his father, rushed for 44 yards in just seven touches. Defensively, Henry had five tackles and forced a fumble on the night as well.

Shane DeArment finished his night with a touchdown catch of his own.

Leading the way in the receiving department was Jayden Jackson who had four receptions for 84 yards. His longest a 21-yard grab.

The Huskies continued its scoring in the second half posting 13 second half points.

Offensively, Mifflin County posted 27 first down while holding Big Springs to just 11.

Mifflin County looks to continue its strong play this Friday as it will take on Waynesboro on the road.
