Coming off a rough 0-3 week last week, Penns Valley badly needed a win – or at least a very good game. They achieved both in a stunning 5-0 victory over Mountain League rival Clearfield.

“We’ve had trouble finding the net recently,” said Penns Valley head coach Ken Gore, “so we really needed this victory and really needed to get our confidence back to know that we can indeed finish! When you’re in a slump, many times that first goal opens the floodgates.”

Senior midfielder Jack O’Donald earned what would turn out to be the game-winning goal with hustle and a great finish. After collecting a fine pass off the left flank by midfield teammate Alex King and getting behind the Bison defense, O’Donald slid the shot with precision to the left of the fast approaching keeper. And that was just the spark Penns Valley needed to ignite the net.

Senior midfielder Nate Long added the Ram’s second score on a hard and fast breakaway attack from the left side in the 8th minute of the 2nd half. The next 3 goals came in a flurry of attacks and finishes by a confident Penns Valley offense as midfielder Cedar Kimler, midfielder Nate Long, and attacker Aiden Korman each scored in the space of 1:09 on the clock.

Junior midfielder Cayden Merrill also added 2 assists and junior Gavin Robb stopped 10 in goal.

Record: 4-4-1

Next game: Huntingdon at Penns Valley, Wednesday 9/29 4:00 pm
