Knepp, Strohecker lead Mifflin County to nail biting win over Wildcats
MECHANICSBURG -A true gut check!
The Mifflin County girls soccer team refused to let the Mechanicsburg Wildcats team to complete a possible comeback attempt, holding onto a 5-4 road victory Monday night.
Aubrey Strohecker and teammate Brynn Knepp finished the successful night with two goals each.
Mechanicsburg’s Halle Engle had a hat trick in a losing effort.
Knepp led off the scoring thanks to a pass from Strohecker at the 10-minute mark.
The game remained a 1-0 contest until the 38th minute.
Strohecker -scored off of an Ella Kammerer pass, making it a 2-0 contest.
Knepp quickly made it 3-0 on a Lily Yoder connection at 50:40.
Mechanicsburg got on the scoreboard when Alexandria Black scored on an unassisted goal at 51:10.
Strohecker added another goal this time from a Sarah Henry pass at 55:47.
Mechanicsburg came back when Halle Engle scored on a Penalty kick at 69:17, cutting the lead to 4-2.
With a shot by Halle Engle, the Wildcats cut the score to 4-3 at the 72:35 mark.
Less than a minute later Mifflin County added a much needed insurance goal by Kate Bickhart via a Free Kick at 73:30.
Mechanicsburg’s Halle Engle made it close cutting it to a 5-4 advantage at 74:50.
But it wouldn’t be enough as the Huskies held the Wildcats off for the win.
Mechanicsburg led in the shots on goal by a 24-15 margin and it also led in corner kicks 9-3.
MC goalie Bailey McNitt had 20 saves while the Wildcats had 10.
With the win, Mifflin County improves to 3-0 in Mid-Penn action while having a 3-1 overall record.
