Let the season begin! MIfflin County/ Big Valley gave opening ceremonies

Well ladies and gentlemen a brand new season of Mifflin County Youth Baseball is here. Mifflin County Commissioner Josh Snook enters into his tenth season at the helm of the league.
“Very excited, last year you know with the COVID going on we had some setbacks but we still got some sort of a season in,” Mifflin County Commissioner Snook said. “This year we’re very excited, we added quite a few new teams, we’re combined with Big Valley so Mifflin County and Big Valley. We’re working towards becoming one league overall. Today here for opening ceremony it will be all of the teams from Mifflin County being here.”
It was an amazing turnout of players, coaches and parents over at REC park with every team within the Mifflin County league with 17 teams among three divisions were in attendance for the festivities.
There will be three different divisions for the upcoming season starting the with Modified Coach Pitch division featuring three teams in C/P Noerr’s, Center Wisp and Sheetz.
Then there is the Minor League which has five teams competing for the top spot in Big Daddy’s Bar and Grill, Joe’s OIP, Lakes, Rita’s and T&J’s.
Last but not least, the Major/Cal Ripken division which is made up of nine teams in the Belleville Indians, Greater Vision, Hartley’s, Reedsville Cardinals, Reedville Tigers, Siglerville Blue Rock, Wilson’s Meats, Wray’s Landscaping and rounding out the nine teams is Yeagertown.
Commissioner Snook was very pleased with turnout for the opening ceremonies.
“We’re looking forward to it and we’re excited,” Snook said. “You know last night was our opening night, the first two Major games of the year. There is a great turnout her today. Looking forward to it, looking forward to a good season.”
However, Commissioner Snook does admit that the uncertainty that is still the COVID pandemic. Snook hopes to get through the season without any trouble, but more importantly being able to protect the kids.
“There are a few concerns, we have our precautions in place at each field,” Snook said. “Special instructions in case of COVID situation on each team. But we’re going to go with the flow and last year went pretty well considering the COVID situation going on. This year we’re hoping for the same smooth season.”
Ultimately though this season is about the kids. Commissioner Snook’s main goal for the season is to just make sure these kids go out and have some fun and be thankful to go out and play some baseball.
“Just for the kids to be able to get out for another year,” Snook said. “And play with their friends, play against their friends. Have fun being able to be out there, enjoying the field and just being out there with their friends.”
For everyone that is involved for the upcoming year whether it be coaching, umpiring, working concessions, parents cheering on their kids thank you helping support Youth baseball. But more importantly to all the kids playing, just go out and have some great fun playing the game of baseball.
