Barnyak tough on mound; BEA sizzles in senior night delight

WINGATE – They had their eyes on the prize.

Saturday afternoon, the Bald Eagle Area baseball team honored their eight senior players in a big way, topping Somerset 15-3 in five innings.

It was a contest that everyone up and down the Bald Eagle roster would make a contribution as the whole team got into the contest.

Pitching the complete game for the Eagles was Dillon Barnyak.

Barnyak cruised through the contest giving up three runs while scattering seven hits. He also had four strike outs.

Honored before the game were seniors Luke Barnhart, Dillon Barnyak, Tyler Bumbarger, Kyler Cunningham, Trey Foster, Casey May, Wyatt McClain, Cole Parsons, Myles Stover and Logan Williamson .

“Things just fell in to place for us. If I planned to get everybody in the ball game it all seemed to work out.  I’m really pleased with our starting pitcher coming out abd setting the tone for us,” said Bald Eagle Area coach Jim Gardner. “We got some breaks but we made those breaks. We got a couple of clutch hits. Had a lot of fun and got some home runs and ice it for us.”

Leading the offense on the day was the hot hitting of Alex Gavlock who posted two singles a double and four RBIs to pace the Eagles.

Noah Williamson provided the “big Boom!” as he blasted a towering homers  and also a single en route to a three RBI day.

Hayden Vaughn also launched a roundtripper blasting a 2-run moon shot that easily cleared the fence.

Rounding out the multiple hitters was Kahale Burns who finished with a double and a single as well as an RBI.

Coming off the bench to come through in the clutch was Luke Barnhart with a single between first and second.

Other finishing with hits were Kyler Cunningham with a single and RBI, Ryan Kresovich with a single, Tyler Bumbarger with a single.

Bald Eagle opened the game with a  3-run bottom of the first.

Miles Stover led off the inning with a walk.

Gavlock plastered a double, upping the runners to second and third.

Designated hitter Noah Williamson hit a slow rolled to third that he beat out on the play. He picked up an RBI as Stover made it safely to Gomez.

Kyler Cunningham hit a sacrifice fly that scored Gavlock on the play.

With Williamson on third, the Eagles’Hayden Vaughn hit an RBI sacrifice fly to righ field to give Bald Eagle a 3-0 advantage going into the second.

After holding Somerset scoreless again in the second, the gears started rolling on the Bald Eagle offensive machine as they plated 11 runs in the inning.

Stover hustled out a strikeout pitch in the dirt to start the rally.

Gavlock singled to set the stage for Williamson. He did not disappoint as he blasted a shot to left that would clear the bases and the fence resulting in a 3-run home run.

Kyler Cunningham reached on an error to keep the momentum rolling.

He was replaced on the base paths by Trey Foster.

Vaughn followed in Williamson’s foot steps as he blasted a shot to right field for the roundtripper, upping the lead to 8-0.

When the dust settled in the inning, 11 crossed the plate, giving the home team a comfortable 14-0 advantage.

That would be all the runs Barnyak would need as he kept things in control en route to the complete game 15-3 victory.
