Mifflin County field hockey wins Big Springs Tournament

What a Saturday for the upstart Mifflin County Girls field Hockey team as they took home the title of the Big Springs field hockey tournament.

In the first game, the Mifflin County Junior Varsity shut out Big Springs 2-0.

The Huskies pounded out 20 shots on goal and collected eight corner opportunities.

In game two, the Mifflin County varsity defeated Big Springs 6-0.

Mifflin County got first half goals from Keni Kahley- 20:10, Hailee Sheetz- 14:55from Kahley,

Halle Kerstetter- 7:36  from Sheetz and Alyssa Lynch- 0:04from Kahley.

In the second, Sheetz finished with the last two goals of the game.

Sheetz scored at 20:12 and at 13:07with an assist from Lydia Hidlay.

“These were our first two games of the season so of course we are thrilled to have two wins. Winning this tournament is a great start to the season,” said Mifflin County coach Ashley Suydam. “The girls had excellent passing, communication and adjusted well to the physical play of the other team. I’m so proud of how the girls played, both JV and Varsity.”

In their match against South Western, the two teams battled to go into overtime.

Mifflin County came out the victors winning 3-2 in OT.

The Lady Huskies had 16 shots on goal and seven corners.

The first half went to the Lady Huskies as Alyssa Lynch scored at 23:51 thanks to an assist by Lydia Hidlay.

The second goal came from Hailee Sheetz as she picked up an unassisted goal at the 8:36 mark.

In the second half South Western notched two goals, sending the game into an extra period.

But the Huskies would take home the hard fought win when Keni Kahley notched the game winning goal at 10:03on an assist from Hidlay.

Coletta Beeler had two saves in the game against Big Springs. In the second game, Beeler had 12 saves.
