BELLEFONTE – Going out with a bang!

The Bellefonte girls soccer team ended its season in fine fashion as they battled in a clash with Clearfield in Laurel Highlands Conference action.

Offensively, the Lady Raiders were led by Angelina Kasak who had a hat trick in a 6-1 victory over the Bison.

Teammate Brooke Whitman’s had two while teammate Laila Packer rounded out the scorers with a goal of her own.

“It’s been a phenomenal season. They’ve worked hard and it’s paid off,” said Bellefonte coach Stacey Miller. “In the first half, I think it did go back and forth. We were able to put one in the back of net. But in the second half, I think we connected on passes to be able to finish pretty easily in front of the net.”

With the win, veteran Bellefonte coach notched her 200th, ironically against her Alma matter.

Miller was modest in the milestone.

“It doesn’t have anything to do with me. It’s the girls out here that made it happen,” said Miller.

The Bison led in shots on goal by a 15-12 margin while the also led in corner opportunities 7-2.

Bellefonte’s defense was spearheaded by the strong goalie play of Keira Whitman,10.

In the First Half, Bellefonte went right to work, pushing the ball deep into the Bison defensive side.

The Red Raiders struck first.

Brooke Whitman picked up a pass midway across the midfield line and pushed her way through two defenders. On the the run at the goal, Whitman tricked the goalie to come out and snuck it past the last line of defense, notching the unassisted goal at 32:46.

Bellefonte’s defense took over as Clearfield tried to find a crack in the Lady Raiders’ side.

There was some clutch plays by the defensive/backfield clearing the ball and frustrating the Bison at the same time.

When the buzzer sounded, the Lady Raiders still clung to a close 1-0 score at the half.

In the second half, Bellefonte’s offense would wear down the Bison.

After an early Clearfield run to start the action, the Lady Raiders added some distance from the Bison.

Team captain Angelina Kasak put her name in the scorebook with a hard fought unassisted goal in front of the net, making it a 2-0 ball game with 31:59 showing on the clock.

Controversy struck at the 25:03 mark. Clearfield sent a shot at the goal which was caught by Bellefonte’s Keira Whitman. However, she was said to have caught the ball on the wrong side of the line after being pushed, making it a Bison goal.

The call sent a kick start to the Bellefonte offense.

In less than a couple minutes, Brooke Whitman busted her way through the back line of Clearfield and crushing a shot, upping it back to a 2-goal lead, 3-1.

Bellefonte continued to ride the wave of momentum as the clock ticked away.

Kasak unassisted, blasted a shot from the 20-yard line that skimmed the top of the Bison goal, making it a 4-1 contest at 21:13.

Less than two minutes later Kasak was back at it again as she forced yet another shot past the Clearfield goalie at 19:49.

With the game in control, the Lady Raiders officially ended it with 4:23 as Laila Packer posted a goal of her own.

With the win, Bellefonte ends its 2023 regular season with a record of 13-3-1.
