Penns Valley jumps out and holds onto a victory over PO

The Philipsburg -Osceola Mounties watched the game slip away early and couldn’t recover in a 9-6 loss to Penns Valley on Thursday. The Rams scored on a single by McClain Welshans, a home run by Colby Sweitzer, and a single by Jon Meyer in the first inning.

The Mounties collected 12 hits and Penns Valley Area had ten in the high-scoring affair.

The Rams opened up scoring in the first inning. Welshans singled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run.

Penns Valley Area scored five runs in the fourth inning. The Rams’ big inning was driven by singles by Hayden Houser, Welshans, and Dakota Brodzina and by Ty Houtz.

Houtz got the win for Penns Valley Area. Houtz surrendered four runs on eight hits over five and a third innings, striking out six. Welshans threw one and two-thirds innings in relief out of the bullpen.

Dave Meersand took the loss for Mounties. The hurler went seven innings, allowing nine runs on 11 hits, striking out four and walking zero.

Philipsburg-Osceola saw the ball well today, racking up 12 hits in the game. Ben Gustkey, Nick Coudriet, Meersand, and Denny Prestash all managed multiple hits for the Mounties. Gustkey led Mounties with three hits in three at bats.

Penns Valley Area tallied ten hits. Welshans, Houser, and Brodzina each collected multiple hits for Penns Valley Area. Welshans went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Penns Valley in hits. Penns Valley was sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error. Brodzina made the most plays with eight.
