State College battles late but falls to Cedar Cliff in Softball action

STATE COLLEGE – They refused to give up.

Despite falling down early to Cedar Cliff, the State College Softball team battled throughout but couldn’t get that extra hit when it needed, falling 6-3 Monday afternoon.

Ashley Blumenthal paced all Little Lions with a 3-for-4 outing. She posted three singles.

Scoring wise, State College’s Caitlyn Brannon went yard twice en route to a 2-for-2 outing.

Rounding out the multiple hitters for State was McKenzie Shannon as she was 2-for-3 afternoon.

The Colts got things going in the top of the second as they notched three runs.

Olivia Wagner got the inning going with a 2-out walk.

Sarah Dietrich sent a shot over the centerfield fence for the 2-run home run.

Before the game could settle back in, teammate Claire Farrell hit a solo shot to end the scoring in the inning.

Cedar Cliff added another run in the third, upping its lead to 4-0.

pitcher Avery Winchell lifted a solo shot of her own.

State College tallied back for one in the fourth on Brennan’s first home run of the game. 

But the Colts added to its lead in the fifth as it scored two more.

Winchell hit a 2-run round tripper this time, making it a 6-1 advantage.

 

But the Little Lions refused to go down without a fight as it scored a run in the sixth on Brannon’s second homer.

In the seventh, Shannon posted an RBI double, closing it to 6-3.

But that would be as close as the Little Lions would getting, falling by three.
