State College v Cedar Cliff, State College, PA
Saturday, October 10, 2020
State College Field Hockey played Cedar Cliff at Memorial Field on Saturday. After suffering their first loss (2-3) to CV, State College had been working hard in practice all week and was looking to turn things around. Both State College and Cedar Cliff came out with strong passing games and battled for possession during the first two quarters. Although both SC and CC had opportunities to score, it wasn’t until the end of the second quarter when State College moved the ball into the circle and sophomore, Maddy Shomo, knocked the ball into the net on a rebound off the goalies pads, putting SC ahead 1-0. This was Maddy’s second goal of the season. During the third and fourth quarters, the battle for possession continued and a surprising number of players received penalty cards. In the end, State College was able to hold Cedar Cliff to 1-0 and the game ended, SC with 7 penalty corners, 2 shots on goal and 2 goalkeeper saves vs. CC with 9 penalty corners, 2 shots on goal and 1 goalkeeper save. State College is now 4-1 for the season and 3-1 in the Mid-Penn.
