State College pulls out a close victory over Carlisle

SC Field Hockey played Carlisle High School on Carlisle’s Senior Day, named “Liv Day” for their one senior player, Olivia Renault, Carlisle’s goalkeeper. After graduating, Liv plans to play field hockey at Dickinson College. State College seniors, Rebecca Bonness, Bayla Furmanek, Johannah Lee, Isabella Parrillo, Lizzie Paterno, Maddie Tambroni, Nicole Zeiler, and Jena Zeiler were also recognized. From the beginning of the game, State College dominated possession and worked hard to pass across the field. Carlisle had the advantage playing on grass, which significantly slowed the speed of play, but SC continued to use their passing game to move the ball into Carlisle’s circle. The first and only goal of the game came when Maddie Tambroni drove a shot toward the goal and Maddy Shomo tipped it into the cage with 8:33 left in the 3rd quarter to put SC up 1-0. Although SC had 14 penalty corners and 14 shots on goal, Carlisle’s senior GK, Liv Renault, was able to keep numerous shots out of the net. State College is now 6-2 for the season and will host Cumberland Valley on Wednesday, October 21, on the SC North Turf field.

State College’s next game will be at home v Cumberland Valley on Wednesday, 10/21 on the North Turf Field. Varsity plays at 6:30 pm, JV is at 5:00 pm.
