Staying alive! Bellefonte 11/12s eliminate Hershey

HUNTINGDON- Bellefonte had its bats going early and often for the second time in three games as the 11/12Us stayed alive in Section 4 competition, defeating Hershey 14-3 Monday night at Huntingdon.

Despite only hitting one home run on the night, the Red Raiders finished with 19 hits en route to the victory.

Trevor Johnson led the offensive charge as he came just a triple short of hitting for the cycle. Johnson went 4-for-4 with five RBIs and two runs scored.

Triston Heckman picked up the win, sparkling on the mound in his two early innings of work. He finished facing just seven batters and allowing one hit.

Teammates Collin Sharp and Jake Corman combined to allow just three runs.

Bellefonte list the toss and were the visiting team but it didn’t matter to “the Red and White” as they came out swinging.

Braedyn Kormanic, who finished with a 3-for-3 afternoon led off with a shot into right field. He was replaced on the base paths by Ethan Tomasacci.

Johnson put the team’s its first runs of the game as he smoked a liner over the fence for the round tripper.

Grayson Alterio continued things as he doubled into left.

With two outs, Bellefonte wasn’t quite done scoring yet as Alterio scored on single by Triston Heckman.

Sharp, Peyton Vancas and Luke Fisher all singled to keep the inning going.

Batting for the second time in the inning, Kormanic drove in two with a single.

Johnson brought another in with a single.

When the dust settled, Bellefonte led 7-0.

Heckman sent the Hershey offense down in order, going into the second.

Bellefonte added to its lead as it plated four more runs.

Wyatt Flick came off the bench and plastered a single.

Tomasacci singles in his first at bat.

Caleb Stock loaded the bases with yet another clutch single by the bottom of the order.

Luke Fisher scored Flick and Tomasacci with his single while Kormanic’s sacrifice fly brought home Stock.

Fisher later scored on a fielders choice, giving his team an 11-0 advantage going into the bottom of the inning.

Both teams failed to score in the third and Hershey quieted the Bellefonte bats in the top of the fourth.

Hershey refused to be shut out and extended the game to the fifth as it picked up two runs in the bottom of the fourth, extending the game to a fifth inning.

The Bellefonte bats went back to work and added three more much needed insurance runs, going ahead 14-2.

But the home team tried once more to extend the game but it could only manage one run as Bellefonte moves on to a rematch with top seeded Huntingdon Tuesday at Huntingdon.
