Bald Eagles soar on Senior night

By Kenny Varner

WINGATE – it was smooth sailing on senior night for the Bald Eagle Area volleyball team as it swept Clearfield 25-15, 25-15 and 25-22 Tuesday night in Mountain League action.

“Offensively, we were better tonight. We had multiple kids with double-digit kills. Claire Andrews eight aces.  I thought the Brownson (Peightin) kid did a nice job tonight. She came in and forced three time outs for them and out of a time out did not give up the serve. She ended up with six aces on the night and no errors,” said Bald Eagle coach Lawrence Campbell. “That’s tough with a team that struggles with ball handling that made a difference. It was senior night and we have had our ups and downs lately but we wanted to be sure the seniors had a good night.”

After going back-and-forth in the early part of game one, the Eagles started to break away leading 8-6.

The Eagles made it 10-6 on consecutive points by Maddie Guenot.

After a side out by Clearfield, Bald Eagle went on yet another run.

This time it would be Brownson that would sizzle from the line, posting four consecutive service points with the help of Guenot on the front line to up the lead to 15-7.

The team’s exchanged seven consecutive service points before Clearfield would break the chain and notch a point of their own.

However, the Eagles would continue to score as they would finish off the game on a 6-3 run to take the contest 25-16.

In the second game, things started out a little cold for the Eagles to start as they fell behind 7-3.

However, Bald Eagle got the ball trailing by three and putting the ball in Bownson’s hands once again.

Brownson had the right stuff from the service line as she rolled off eight consecutive service points, three of which were not returned.

With the scoring run the Eagles took the lead 12-7.

From there the Eagles had enough momentum to put the game away in the final part of the match, scoring the next 13 while allowing the Bison only eight as Bald Eagle went up two sets to none with the 25-15 victory.

Though the third game remained close throughout, there was no denying the Eagles on this night as the Eagles finished off the match with a 25-22 win.
