MC volleyball falls to Cumberland Valley

LEWISTOWN – The Mifflin County Huskies gave the Cumberland Valley Eagles everything that they could handle but ultimately lost in a 3-1 volleyball matchup.

In the first set, the Huskies and the Eagles both showed plenty of fight as everything at first appeared as though things were evenly matched.

Mifflin County was able to hang tough for a while. But then with the score at 14-13, Cumberland Valley just went off offensively behind the serving of senior Jordan Thompson. The Eagles went and scored the final 11 points of the game to clinch the first set by the final score of 25-13.

Things seemed to change for Mifflin County going into the second set as they scored the first three points of the set. From there onward, both teams continued going back and forth for control of the ball.

The Huskies were able to answer every shot that Cumberland Valley would dish out. The trio of Audrey Jordan, Kashia Smith and Dakota Hershberger carried the Huskies to clinch the second set with Hershberger scoring the set winning point with an ace. The final score was 25-19.

The third set appeared to be another tight race between Mifflin County and the Eagles. But late in set number three, problems began to arise within the Huskies and Cumberland Valley would take advantage of the situation. Cumberland Valley came out on top at the end of the third set by the final score of 25-16.

The issues however, would continue in the fourth and final set of the match where Mifflin County struggled to get going offensively. Any time they would get possession of the ball, they would immediately give control back to Cumberland Valley. The Eagles then got on a little run and slowly but surely would start pulling away from the Huskies.

The Cumberland Valley fire power then really started to pick up late in the set and eventually became too much for Mifflin County as the Eagles took the fourth and final set with a 25-9 victory.

Mifflin County was led by senior Audrey Jordan who had an ace, nine kills and six digs. Fellow senior Kashia Smith had an ace, two kills, 14 assists and a dig. Sophomore Dakota Hershberger got herself an ace, along with nine kills and six digs. Taylor Seese, a sophomore collected a pair of aces and had six digs.

Mifflin County is now (0-7) and will play Cedar Cliff on Monday.
