Bellefonte celebrates Senior night with dominating win over Jersey Shore

BELLEFONTE – On a night that the Bellefonte wrestling team would honor its season, the Raiders’ pregame ceremony lasted longer than the actual meet between them and Jersey Shore.

The Bulldogs have been decimated with injuries were forced to give up six forfeits en route to the Raiders 54-12 victory Wednesday evening.

Honored on the night were seniors Garrett Choates, Aidan O’Shea, Tyler Putnam, Nate Smith, Jude Swisher and Noah Weaver.

“It’s kind of the nature we are in this day and age with Covid and everything. You just never know. We had three guys with contract tracing and Jersey Shore had some guys out. It is what it is,” said Bellefonte coach Michael Maney. “But I’m real happy with Jude getting bonus points and is really excited that he got a match on senior night. He’s one of the best that will go down in Bellefonte history. So it was good to see him get a match down.”

At 106, the Red Raiders’ Cameron Garcia won by forfeit. As did

Garrett Choates at 113 as he got his hand rose with his win by forfeit.

Neither team had a wrestler for the 120-pound weight class.

Jersey Shore got its first win at 132 when Brock Weiss won by a forfeit.

Bellefonte added another win at 138 when Aidan O’Shea picked up yet another win by forfeit.

145 -pounder Alex James added an easy win by forfeit as well.

At 152, there was no match held.

The first real match of the night came at 160.

Bellefonte captain Jude Swisher went up against Kale Ross. Swisher made quick work of Ross picking up a takedown, three back points and another takedown before pinning Ross with 21.5 left in the first.

At 172, Noah Irwin pinned his opponent in even quicker fashion. Irwin opened with a takedown of Phillip Kanski that led to a pin at with 38 ticks left on the clock.

The Bulldogs picked up a win at 189 when Haydin Packer pinned Noah Weaver at 1:11.

In the last competitive match at 215, Addison Shawley pinned Dyllian Ross at 3:09 to give the Raiders the commanding victory.

The contest ended at 285 with neither team sending a wrestler.

160 – Jude Swisher (B) pinned Kale Ross (JS) , (21.5)

172 – Noah Irwin (B) pinned Phillip Kanski (JS), :38.

189 – Haydin Packer (JS) pinned Noah Weaver (B), 1:11.

215 – Addison Shawley (B) pinned Dyllian Ross 3:09.
