Bellefonte falls to hard hitting Knights in PIAA playoff contest

WINGATE – It was quite a run.

The Bellefonte baseball team had quite a great run in the post season.

After capturing a District 6 title, the Red Raiders continued its run with a PIAA post season contest against the Eastern York Knights.

With the game being played at Bald Eagle Area high school, the Raiders had a chance to play in front of its home crowd.

After posting the first run of the game, the Knights started to find the gaps in the Bellefonte outfield and outscored the Red Raiders 14-0 en route to the win.

The loss ended the Bellefonte season but it does not take away from the road the team paved  throughout the season.

Picking up the win was Owen Shimmel.

Taking the loss for the Red Raiders was Seth Shuey.

Bellefonte finished with five hits in the contest.

Leading the way was Braedyn Kormanic with two hits. Others getting hits were Shuey, Bobby Marsh and Zach Swanger.

Going into the bottom of the second the game was scoreless.

In the bottom of the inning, the Red Raiders quickly got two on as Swanger and Kormanic reached the base paths. Swanger scored on an Knights error.

However, in the top of the third, Eastern York had the offense churning rolling out five runs on six hits.

The continued the scoring in the fourth with four runs and then five in the fifth, taking the 14-1 lead into the bottom of the fifth.

Bellefonte could not find an answer on this night as the Red Raiders were sent down 1-2-3 to end the season.
