Bellefonte Lady Raiders fall in PIAA state opener

The Bellefonte Red Raiders softball team watched the game slip away early and couldn’t recover in a 5-2 loss to the Montour Spartans on Monday.  Montour took the lead on an error in the first inning.

The Spartans got things started in the first inning when an error scored one run for Montour.

Kaitlyn Molitoris pitched the Spartans to victory. The fireballer went seven innings, allowing two runs on seven hits and striking out nine.

Josselyn Nau took the loss for Bellefonte. The righty surrendered three runs on three hits over four innings, striking out two and walking zero.

The Red Raiders racked up seven hits.  Grace Novitsky, Sienna Barnhart, and Haylie Rimmey all had multiple hits for Bellefonte.  Rimmey, Barnhart, and Novitsky each collected two hits to lead the Red Raiders.

Delaney Barto led the Spartans with two hits in three at bats.  Montour was sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error. Danielle Terpack made the most plays with ten.
