Bellefonte notches clutch win over Penns Valley

Another Mountain League nail biter. In a battle of the Mountain League the Penns Valley girls went up against Bellefonte.

In the end, the Red Raiders outlasted the Rams 2-1.

Things started on a positive note for Penns Valley when Katie Martell scores off an assist by Ellie Brinker at 19:50,

Back came the Lady Raiders as Maddie Morelli  picked up a pass from by Mia Johnson and scored the game tying goal at 45:12.

In the second half Bellefonte notched the winning goal when Leigha Schrader got a pass from Emily Culp and sent it home for the goal at 52:27.

“This was a tough one to take but ultimately we didn’t do enough to win.  We lost our way a few times throughout tonight and went against the game plan but we were still able to create plenty of chances.  If we were more clinical tonight then we could have scored 6 or 7 goals but we wasted our chances,” said Penns Valley Coach Andrew Beverly. “Add into that a couple glaring mistakes in the back that gave Bellefonte a chance and credit to them cause they punished us.  It’s a tough one tonight but we can’t dwell on it cause we’ve got more tough games ahead to finish out our league season.”

Despite the loss Penns Valley still outshot Bellefonte 30-8.

Penns Valley’s goalie Kylie Auman finished with five saves while Bellefonte’s keeper Emily Culp had 22.

Penns Valley’s record is now 9-2 and 7-2 in the Mt. League.  Penns Valley’s  next game is on Monday at Huntingdon.
