C3 hosts Red White and Wrestle wrestling tournament
A wrestling tournament in July? You bet! The C3 Sports complex on the Benner Pike was host for the Red, White, and Wrestle two day tournament held July 10 – 11. Organized by Tournament Directors, Ed and Heather Marcozzi and Mark Kunselman, the tournament brought hundreds of boys and girlsfrom all over Pennsylvania and some from other states to the area for wrestling competition.
“This is our fourth year organizing and promoting local, regional, and national wrestling tournaments,” said Ed Marcozzi. “We hold about 15 tournaments per year in Pennsylvania, Virginia, North and South Carolina, and Ohio and average 450 kids in our tournaments,” he stated.
“The Red, White, and Wrestle Tournament featured student athletes from the ages of 6 – 15 year old – boys and girls,” said Kunselman. “On Friday we had a duals tournament and on Saturday an individual Round Robin wrestling tournamentwhere each participant got to wrestle a minimum of four matches,” Kunselman explained. The tournament directors were excited to have girls entered. “One of the girls, who is a top 100 female wrestler in PA, wrestled in the tournament,” Marcozzisaid. “They have their own division but some will wrestle the boys. Sometimes the girls will want to wrestle the boys and sometimes it just works out that way by bracketing and registration,”stated Kunselman.
