Central Mountain swimmers battle but falls to Danville

LOCK HAVEN – Battling through a rash of illnesses and fatigue, the Central Mountain swimming team gave it all it had Tuesday evening in  its meet against a very tough Danville team.

Unfortunately for the Wildcats, they weren’t able to come out with the victory. The girls fell 102-68 while the boys dropped a 100-53 decision at Lock Haven University.

“We had a lot of kids sick and we missed sometime due to the weather last week so they are a little soar,” Central Mountain Coach Jim Merinar said. “They battled. They are definitely a very competitive group. After the break we said let’s go back into it and in the second half they swam a lot better.”

The girls got off to a third place finish in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 2:23.13.

In the girls 200-yard freestyle, Central Mountain got a second and third place finish as Mikayla Rich and Hannah Brian finished in second and third place with times of 2:09.48 and 2:11.32, respectively.

Second place seemed to be a constant early on for the Wildcats. In the girls 200-yard IM freshman Madison Bair took second with a time of 2:43.67.

In a fast moving 50-yard freestyle, Central Mountain’s Emma Persun placed in third with a mark of 27.39.

The Wildcats broke through in the 100-yard butterfly as they took the last two spots.

Evie Rembold topped the list with a second place finish of 1:12.67 while Morgan Brian rounded out the top three with a mark of 1:13.95.

Mikayla Rich captures another second place finish, this time she finished with a time of 1:01.60 in the 100-yard freestyle.

In the grueling of all the water events, Hannah Brian gutted out a third place time of 6:09.87 in the 500-yard freestyle.

The girls finished in the top spot in the 200-yard freestyle as they finished with a top time of 1:51.76.

Central Mountain also placed third in the event, posting a time of 2:01.37.

Madison Bair and Morgan Brian finished one-two in the 100-yard back stroke, posting times of 1:09.67 and 1:15.55, respectively.

McKenna Fox placed second while teammate Caitlyn Dale finished in second and third place.

Fox finished with a time of 1:19.65 while Dale’s time was 1:31.41.

Rounding out the events, Central Mountain finished second in the 400-yard freestyle relay.

On the boys’ side, the Wildcats finished in second in the 200 medley relay with a time of 2:11.60.

In the boys 200 freestyle,  Parker Orndorf finished second with a time of 1:59.71.

Derek Hughes took second in the 200 IM sporting a time of 2:21.24.

Central Mountain got its first first place finish in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 57.7.

In the boys 100 freestyle, Central Mountain captured third with a time of 56.93.

Parker Orndorf proved he had the right stuff as he blew away his competition in the 500 freestyle with a winning time of 5:28.60.

The boys picked up a second place in the 200 Freestyle with a time of 2:01.70.

Sweeping the 100 back stroke, Central Mountain was led by James Riccardo with a top spot finish of 1:02.76.

Teammate Derek Hughes followed with a time of 1:02.80.

Rounding out the sweep was Leisher Gugino with a third-place time of 1:09.00.

In the final event of the night, Central Mountain placed second in the 400 Freestyle relay.
